I
welcome you and your interest in being part of our Silverado Karate School.
One of my goals as your instructor is to transmit a Philosophy that is within
the art of Karate-Do; the philosophy is believed that every Karate-ka (karate
student) should follow to develop ones character to it's fullest. In other words
there is discipline and rules involved with the training of Karate-do (the way
of the empty hand).
The
Silverado Nippon Karate club rules are as follows:
-
ALL members must be current in
dues and training fees. All members must pay their monthly training fees
on time.
-
A minimum of 20 classes must be
attended in each 3-month testing cycle in order to test. (Keep track of
your classes). No Exceptions.
-
Karate begins and ends with
"rei" courtesy. Members must show it in or out the training
environment. All members must be courteous and respectful towards fellow
Members.
-
All members shall treat the
Sensei and Senpai (advance student) with respect at all the times and all
locations. No member shall use profane language within the dojo.
-
Use the proper title for your
main instructor. When speaking directly use Sensei. When speaking about
someone else use their title: Whatever the case may be. Honor the process
of others period. Reigo (respect) is first and foremost. Junior Members
(under 18) are NEVER to address adults by their first names. Mr. or Mrs.,
Sir or Madam only.
-
When a black belt instructor
enters or leaves the Joseki's area (training area) for the first time the
senior student stops the activity on the Joseki's area and orders the Members to
attention. Always Bow to an instructor when speaking to them, or leaving
the dojo. This is returned through respect. It is not an act of
subservience. Everyone in the Karate is required to do this.
-
There not an offensive attitude
in karate. Members don’t learn to offend others. Karate is merely a
defensive art.
-
Spiritual development is
paramount; technical skills are merely a means to an end.
-
Karate training is not only in
the dojo. Members are required to training also at their spare time for
improvement. No member shall display their techniques to a non-member.
-
No member shall use alcohol to
the excess or engage in the use of illegal drugs.
-
No member shall engage in any
activity that brings discredit upon themselves and/or any of the
affiliates/sponsors or friends of our organization.
-
No member shall present a dirty
or unkempt appearance in the dojo. Dogi (uniform) must be in good shape at
all times. Each member MUST display good hygiene at ALL times. Toenails
& Fingernails are to be short, clean and neatly trimmed in the dojo.
Absolutely NO jewelry is to worn while engaged in Karate training.
-
Do not leave the Joseki area (training
area), without The Sensei’s permission. Leaving the Joseki's area without permission
is punished by no return to the Joseki area after the next class. Members show
respect through self control and perseverance in training. Bow when
entering the dojo; wait to be invited on the training area if you’re late
and bow, bow when stepping onto the training space. Lateness is excused
only when the sensei is notified or prior arrangements are made.
-
Strive to promote the true
spirit of the Karate by:
- Character mental development (school
work up to par. All junior Members must have report cards on file).
- Health: physical development
(Training & diet should be in a constant state of improvement).
- Skill: proficiency in Karate (Always
work towards getting better at your training skills).
- Respect: courtesy to others in AND
out of the dojo. WE must respect ALL. (Including yourself-respect and dignity).
- Humility: be aware of your
shortcomings and refrain from correcting other than yourself. (Keep self focus,
some progress faster than others. Bad mouthing will never be tolerated of any Members
or instructors. The world is filled with Martial Artists who have reasons why
others ways are not right. We do not promote this slander).
-
Members that are inactive and do not communicate or train with the dojo for
a period of more than two weeks are considered inactive and on probation.
After one month those Members are considered no longer members of the dojo.
This is common practice amongst Karate organizations and not to be confused
with being non-compassionate. The Sensei does everything in its power to
keep communications open with Members.
